The statement also said that SIT has been receiving information through letters, text messages and phone calls from the general public and police have been probing the case from different angles based on that.
SP Jeyakumar told TOI on Saturday that they will verify the clues to take the probe in the right direction.
It may be recalled that the Madras high court formed the SIT to crack Ramajeyam’s murder case after the CBI which had been probing the case for the past few years, expressed its inability to make headway in the case in February this year.
After the SIT took over, it announced a reward for information in March, but did not specify the quantum. Saturday’s announcement comes a day after the counsel for the SIT told the Madras high court that it has got new clues and the investigating team would zero in on the accused.
Ramajeyam went missing and was found murdered with his body strapped with tape and hands and legs tied with strings on the bank of the Cauvery river near Kallanai in Trichy on March 29, 2012. As CB-CID had made no progress in the case, the case was transferred to the CBI in 2017.
